What’s in store for laminates this season

Innovation finds its way back to the category at the close of 2010 in the form of rolled edges, 7-foot lengths, fold-down locking systems and fashionable 5-inch widths on an assortment of 7mm, 8mm and 12mm planks. Here’s a look at some new offerings:

The New England Long Plank Collection is being updated with Rustic Premium, 7-foot visuals in an oiled, handscraped look. The line features the Lock&Fold, fold-down mechanical locking system and a 30-year residential and five-year commercial warranty. Also new is the Stone & Ceramic Collection, a series of 8mm limestone and slate visuals. Lastly, the Weathered Way line replicates tumbled stone.

The new handscraped Sapele Long Plank updates the Reserve Premium Collection with 7-foot depictions of exotic tropical species. Hickory, a 5-inch rustic with aggressive handscraping, rounds out the Reserve Collection.

Formica Flooring
Formica is adding two new SKUs to its existing Quintessa Collection. Both oak visuals, these SKUs will feature an embossed-in-registered, high/low gloss finish with high cathedrals, providing these 6-foot-long planks with a remarkably realistic look and texture. Quintessa in Valhalla birch has become Formica’s No. 1 selling displayed product.

GTP International
GTP International has signed several new distributors this summer to deliver updated visuals of its piano-finished, 8mm Baby Grand Collection. Advanced 3D handscraping, embossed-in-registration and rolled-edge technology are being incorporated into the 5-inch all-hickory LewisvillePlank and mixed-species WildRiver collections. These lines feature 30 year warranties.

Mohawk Industries
Mohawk updates three of its most-popular value laminate lines, giving shoppers more choices and retailers new ways to promote and merchandise some of their best-selling products. Additions have been made to the Carrolton and Celebration as well as the Festivalle/Festivalle Plus lines.

Carrolton gets two new exotics, a natural cumaru and a spalted maple.Additions to the Celebration Collection feature both authentic and textured 7mm two-strip designs in a domestic exotic natural. Festivalle/Festivalle Plus, gets two new three-strip styles.

Pergo’s Elegant Expressions Collection is getting an update this fall selling season with three new, refined, rustic oak decors; Renaissance, Fleming and Reclaimed Oak. The 12mm line is available in 8-inch and 5-inch formats and features the company’s new PerfectFold fold-down mechanical locking system. Protected by ScratchGard Advanced and TitanX surface protection technology, the collection carries a lifetime residential warranty.

Veresque, a collection of 5 x 47 high-density fiber 8mm planks, is being updated with new GenuEdge Technology, a cutting-edge technology that carries surface visuals around edges.
Currently, the line’s seven SKUs depict exotic and tropical exotic species in everything from embossed-in-registered, distressed and rustic looks to smooth surface furniture finishes.

Patented ScratchGuard Advanced Finish Protection prevents scratching. The NALFA-certified line contributes to LEED points, is an Environmentally Preferred Product and CARB compliant.

Left Bank replicates maple with dramatic contrasts of light complimented by enhanced natural characteristics such as wormholes and scars. Left Bank is part of the new, American made, handscraped 5 x 48 Provencial Collection featuring Shaw’s patented VersaLock glueless locking system.

Versatrim, also known as laminatemoldings.com, continues to roll out new designs in rare, high-gloss laminate moldings. Using more than 85 percent pre-consumer recycled wood fibers in its product construction, Versatrim’s website hosts a function to help dealers match moldings with their favorite branded flooring. Packaging materials are composed of dioxin-free recycled paper. Versatrim is currently installing a 100kw solar energy system atop its Henderson, N.C., warehouse.
